MARJORY E. (CLAY) WARD, age 81, of Scituate, died on Monday, Nov. 14th at the Norwell Knoll Nursing Home in Norwell after a long illness. She was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on Valentine's Day 1924. Mrs. Ward grew up in Nashua, New Hampshire and Milton, MA. She graduated from Milton High School and then Pine Manor Junior College in Wellesley.
A longtime resident of Scituate, she leaves her husband of 53 years, Dr. Clifford L. Ward, Jr. A homemaker while her children were young, she was later employed for a number of years by Serono Laboratories in Rockland. Mrs. Ward was an avid golfer who belonged to both the Scituate Country Club and the Marshfield Country Club. She also belonged to the Scituate Garden Club and spent long hours in her gardens at home. She was an active member of the First Trinitarian Congregational Church of Scituate where she sang in the choir. In their later years, she and her husband spent a great deal of time traveling together. The were a very devoted couple. She will be missed and fondly remembered by all.
In addition to her husband, she leaves her sons; Junius Bebbe, III of Marblehead, Nicholas Roberts Ward of Scituate and Lance McKay Ward of Cohasset. She was the step-mother of David Spencer Ward of Carver and Pamet Brown of Barnstable. Also survived by 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Mrs. Ward was the sister of the late Louis Clay and the late Donald Clay.
A Funeral Service will be conducted on Thursday, Nov. 17th at 2 PM at the First Trinitarian Congregational Church, 381 Country Way, Scituate, MA 02066.
Friends may visit at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory would be appreciated to the First Trinitarian Congregational Church of Scituate.
The interment will be in Trinity Park, Scituate.
