Obituary

LACONIA – Ross H. Beattie, 77, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2018 in Laconia.

Ross was born August 26, 1940, in Lancaster, NH, to the late David and Ruth (Hafford) Beattie. He was raised in Groveton and graduated from Groveton High School, Groveton, NH. After graduation, he attended Tilton Prep School in Tilton, NH and then attended United States Military Academy at West Point, West Point, NY where he was the starting catcher on the baseball team and played against the New York Yankees during spring training. He went on to receive a BA in education from Plymouth State College, Plymouth, NH which is now Plymouth State University.

After graduation from college he went on to be a high school math teacher in Lancaster and Gorham. Following teaching, he went on to manage a number of HR departments at Georgia Pacific, the Brown Company and also James River Company. He retired from Sony in San Diego where he traveled some to Japan for the company.

While he lived in the North Country of NH, he formally served as the President on the Board of Directors for the Chamber of Commerce in Berlin, NH. He enjoyed woodworking and made a 19 foot Grand Laker white cedar canoe and launched it on his 75th birthday. He attended numerous Methodist Churches throughout his lifetime.

Survivors include his wife, Betsy (Caldon) Beattie of Laconia; four sons, John, Scott, Nicholas, and Peter Beattie; three step sons, James, Scott, and Todd Rollins; several grandchildren; a brother John Beattie of Texas; a sister, Carla Bucklin of Florida; and several nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 32 years, Janice (Gagner) Beattie.

According to his wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral services.
