WEBSTER – Paul L. “Luke” Savage, 74, of 26 Arkwright Road, died Sunday, Nov. 13, at home after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 49 years, Patricia A. (Suss) Savage; a daughter, Elizabeth M. Brothers and her husband Curtis N. of Dudley; 5 grandchildren, Joshua L. Brothers, Katie E. Brothers, Jarrod C. Brothers, Alyson R. Brothers, and Patrick F. Brothers; several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Frank Savage, Jr., Robert and Joseph F. Savage, and by 3 sisters, Katherine McAvoy, Gertrude Leboeuf and Mary Delaney.
He was born in Worcester, the youngest child of Frank and Helen (Conners) Savage, Sr., and lived in Webster most of his life. He graduated from Saint Louis High School, where he played on the varsity basketball team.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Savage worked for over forty years at Bates Shoe Company and its successor Wolverine Worldwide, retiring as plant manager in 1995.
He was a communicant of Saint Louis Church, and active in its festivals and many committees, served as a collector, and with his wife worked in the couple-to-couple ministry. He helped form and coached the league for grammar school basketball. He was once a member of the Town of Webster Finance Committee, and a member of the grievance committee of the Webster Housing Authority. He was a member and longtime secretary of the Webster Exchange Club. He belonged to the National American Legion. He was an avid golfer.
The funeral, with military honors, will be held Wednesday, Nov. 16, from Scanlon Funeral Service, East Main St., with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Louis Church, 14 Lake St. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, Nov. 15, at the funeral home. The family suggests donations be made to St. Louis School Endowment Fund, 15 Lake St., Webster, MA 01570
