Obituary

Harold J. "Jack" Courage Jr., a 57 year resident of Melrose, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose. He was 87 years of age.

Jack was born in Arlington on May 11, 1930, a son of the late Harold J. Courage and Mary A. (Riley) Courage. He grew up in Medford where he was educated in the Medford Public School system. Jack enlisted into the United States Air Force on July 19, 1948 and served his country with honor and pride during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on July 1, 1952 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Jack worked as a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service where he spent most of his career delivering mail to the homes in Melrose. He also worked in Arlington for a period of time. Jack retired from the Postal Service following 30 years of dedicated service. Following his retirement and later on in years, Jack could be seen riding his scooter with his beloved dog Daisy always by his feet in all kinds of weather in downtown Melrose.

Jack is the beloved husband of the late Patricia M. (Merket) Courage. He is the devoted father of Deborah Doherty and her husband Gordon of Malden, David Courage and his wife Sharon of Methuen and Linda Surette and her husband Mark of North Billerica. He is the loving Grandfather to 5 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. He is the beloved brother of Lois Gilligan of Melrose and the late Theresa Gilligan. He is the beloved brother-in-law of Kaye and Wilbur Robinson of New Hampshire. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jack's Graveside Funeral Service on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 10 A.M. at Wyoming Cemetery, Sylvan St. Melrose.
