Salvatore T. Cortina, 81 , of Derry, NH died Thursday, November 10, 2005 at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester after a period of failing health. He was born in Medford, MA on September 26, 1924, the son of Nicholas and Rose (Terravecia) Cortina. He had resided in Chelmsford, MA for 35 years and had moved to Derry eleven years ago. Mr. Cortina was a Navy veteran of World War II, and prior to his retirement he was employed by Ackerley Communications as a bill poster. He was also a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Derry.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary P. (Gaipo) Cortina of Derry, two sons, Douglas Cortina and his wife, Martha of Derry, Gregory Cortina and his wife Sharon of Nashua, NH, a daughter, Gail Lopata and her husband Robert of Concord, NH, four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
There were no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00am on Monday November 14th in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry. Following cremation, burial was in the NH Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, NH at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
