Obituary

William Allan Wilde, Jr. of Laconia,NH, formerly of Winchester,MA died suddenly on Nov. 6th. He was the husband of Nancy (Griffiths). Born in Winchester on Nov. 2, 1925, he was the son of the late William Allan Wilde, Sr. and Carline (Gleason) and step-son of the late Elizabeth Sanborn Springall.

Bill was raised in Winchester and graduated with the Winchester High School Class of 1943. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served as a lifeguard and Postmaster during WWII, and was a member of the American Legion. Upon discharge from active duty, he graduated from Dean Academy and Boston University.

He was the past owner of William Allan Wilde and Son Insurance Agency, Inc. of Winchester., which his son William Allan Wilde III now operates.

During his many years in Winchester, he was a past president of the Winchester Rotary Club, where he was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a member of the William Parkman Lodge of Masons, the Aleppo Temple Shrine and the Bektash Temple of NH where he was active in the “Mini-Patrol”. Mr. Wilde served over 20 years as a Winchester Registrar of Voters and 17 years as treasurer of the Winchester Boat Club. He was also a member of the Crawford Memorial United Methodist Church.

For over fifteen years, he volunteered at the Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia, NH. He also was a past president and treasurer of the Mallard Cove Condominium Association , a member of the Laconia Athletic and Swim Club, and was treasurer of the Weirs-Laconia United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife Nancy Griffiths Wilde of Laconia, his sons, William Allan Wilde III of Winchester, Roger Christopher Wilde of Baltimore, MD and Jeffrey Pearse Wilde of Acton, a daughter, Carolann Lannon and husband William A. Lannon, Sr. of Methuen. He was the devoted grandfather of Taighe and Tyler Lannon, William, Christopher and Aidan Wilde. He is also survived by a sister, Jean Crites of West Minot, ME and several nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will be held in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester on Wed., Nov. 9 at 1pm. Visting hours in the Costello Funeral Home 177 Washington St. Winchester on Tues. 4-7 pm. Relatives and friends kindly invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
