John P. Harcovitz - “Jay Harkey”, age 70, of Millis, died March 10 in his home following a long illness. He was the husband of Brenda (Morse) Harcovitz for the past 20 years.
Born in Framingham, June 17, 1947, the son of the late John and Frances (Osborne) Harcovitz, Jay was a Millis resident for most of his life.
He was a 1966 graduate of the Norfolk County Agricultural School and attended UMass Stockbridge.
Jay had been in property management and had also been a real estate broker for many years.
He enjoyed fishing (especially with grandkids), landscaping, and in his later years, video poker - not for money but to “beat the machine”.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Katherine Rose McCabe of Springfield, CJ Wood and her husband Rick of North Attleboro, Christine Renaud and her husband David of Marlboro, and John Harcovitz-Dittami and his wife Jessica of Boynton Beach, FL.
He is also survived by his step children, Geoffrey Yankum of Framingham, and Stephanie Bauer and her husband Brian of Holliston.
Jay is also survived by his siblings, Ruth Harcovitz of Newton, Philip Harcovitz of Norfolk, Jodi Savage of Onset, Paul Harcovitz of Medway, Charles Harcovitz of Walpole, and Ted Harcovitz of Clearwater, FL.
He was the brother of the late Eric, Andrew, Cynthia Harcovitz and Harold Billings.
He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, and many nieces or nephews.
His funeral service will be held on Friday, March 16 in the Medway Village Church at 1:00 p.m.
Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Millis.
