Obituary

Charles R. Reich died Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Tockwotton on the Waterfront in East Providence. He was the husband of the late Joyce A. (Verblude) Reich.

Born in New York, NY, he was a son of the late Alexander D. and Minnie (Gottlieb) Reich. He had lived in West Kingston, RI prior to his move to Providence, RI.

He retired from Greenwich High School in Connecticut and had also taught at Beijing Institute of Technology, China, Paul D. Schrieber High School in Port Washington, NY.

He served in the US Navy during WWII.

He is survived by his son, Peter Reich and his wife, Laura Craighead of Ridgefield, CT, his daughter Tina Hass and her husband, William of Rumford, RI, his grandchildren: Cara Hass, Cicely Reich, Peter Hass and Carey Reich.

Charles was a vibrant man who always said his favorite loves were his grandchildren, writing, traveling and golf. He was a man who experienced the full spectrum of 20th century American history. He was most happy while swimming in the Aegean, being surrounded by his family, teaching literature to students of all ages, and voicing opinions about world issues. A perfect day would involve dark chocolate, red wine, Benny Goodman and a good poem by Robert Frost. He was adored by so many whose lives he had touched.

Private services will be held at a future date.
