Obituary

John Paul Manning, 85, died Saturday, February 10, 2018 after a brief illness.

John was born in Natick and a lifelong resident; he was son of the late George F. Manning and Mary (Mae) C. Naphen Manning. He was a graduate of the class of 1950 from Natick High School. He continued his education at Boston College graduating in 1954 with a BS/BA degree. He was enlisted in ROTC and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. His military career began at Fort Sill, OK. After his training he was picked as one of the top instructors in artillery. His greatest love was teaching West Point Officers.

Returning home he continued being active in Army Reserves for 30 years. A promotion to Lt. Colonel was earned.
Continuing his education he earned a Masters Degree from Boston University and University of Mass Amherst Doctorate.

His teaching career began at Jamaica Plain teaching mathematics as well as a teacher in Danvers where he developed the Vocational Education program and was responsible for building a new school through the help of Mass Legislation. His students were National Leaders in Vocation Education. John left teaching to accept an appointment as Associate Commissioner of Vocation Education for Massachusetts.

John was a life member of the American Legion Post 107 (Local). He was also a member of the Reserves Office Association- a National Association.

Survivors are his brother Kenneth Manning, sisters Janet and Lorraine Manning all of Natick. Many extended family and dear friends also survive John. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 11:30 AM at St. Patrick Church, 44 East Central Street, Natick. Burial to follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held 9:00-11:00 AM Thursday morning prior to service from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street, at Natick Common.
