Obituary

PORT CHARLOTTE, FL – John P. Walsh, 87, of the Fairview section of Chicopee and Port Charlotte, FL, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018 in Port Charlotte after a short illness. He was predeceased by his wife, Maureen T. (Moriarty) Walsh in 1977. He was born in Ansonia, CT on November 28, 1930, a son of the late Walter and Mary (Drewelus) Walsh and was raised in Derby, CT. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he attained the rank of radioman seaman aboard the USS E.F. Larson, and later served with the United States Merchant Marines. He was employed locally for many years as a millwright with the Local 1121 Machinery Erectors until his retirement in 1993. He was a communicant and usher at Saint Anne Church in Chicopee. He was an active member of the Fairview Knights of Columbus Council 4044 in Chicopee where he volunteered at their yearly family picnics, monthly spaghetti suppers and weekly bingo games. He was honored to serve as a member of the Bishop Joseph F. Maguire Assembly 2670. He was a member of the Chicopee Moose Lodge 1849. He leaves his four sons, Sean Walsh and his fiancée, Tammy Baldwin, Patrick Walsh and his wife, Tracy, Dr. Jon Walsh and his wife, Lisa, and John Walsh, Jr.; his thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; his brother, Thomas Walsh; his sister, Maryellen Dulina and her husband, John; his brother-in-law, Donald Germaine; his sister-in-law, Noreen Moriarty; and his many nephews, nieces, friends and extended family members. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his granddaughter, Casey Walsh; his three brothers, Walter Jr., James and Edward Walsh; and his sister, Margaret Germaine. His Funeral will be held on Friday morning, February 16, 2018 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial with United States Navy Military Honors will follow the Mass at Saint Jerome Cemetery, 1666 Northampton Street, Holyoke, MA 01040. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday morning, February 16, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the Mass. The funeral home parking lot is located in the rear.
