Obituary

James Joseph Farren a 23 year resident of Billerica and former longtime Charlestown resident died unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 1, 2005, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Bedford, MA. He was 69 years old.

Jimmy, also known as Nick to his family and friends, was born at home in Jamaica Plain, MA, on June 25, 1936. His parents Rose (Devlin) and Daniel Farren, both formerly of Donegal, Ireland, move to Charlestown where Jimmy grew up and attended Boston Public Schools. He enlisted into the United States Marine Corps on February 26, 1954, and served during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged on February 25, 1962, with the rank of Sergeant. He worked for over 20 years as a Financial Analyst at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, MA, for the United States Government. He retired several years ago. Jimmy enlisted into the United States Army Reserves and served with several different units for 20 years. He retired from the Army Reserves in November of 1996 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was member of the Billerica Irish-American Club, Madeira Beach, Florida, Elks and the Billerica Boys Club.

Jimmy is survived by his beloved wife Caroline M. “Carol” (Carr) Farren. He is the devoted father of Tammy Macklen of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mary Farren of Billerica and Billerica Police Officer Michelle Farren of Billerica. He is the loving "“Poppy” of Kevin, Jessica, Christopher, Faith and James. Jimmy is the loving brother of Daniel J. Farren of Norwood, Anne Doris of Pocasset, Alice Mortali of Revere, Kathleen Whelan and Grace Campbell both of Charlestown, Eileen Sullivan of Billerica and the late Bernard Farren. Jimmy is also the loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Jimmy’s Funeral will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2005, from the Frank H. Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, at 9 a.m. Followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2005, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday, November 4, 2005, from 3 to 7 p.m. Burial will take at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden, MA.
