James Melbourne Colson,Jr., age 85, died October 31, 2005 in the Baptist Memorial Hospital N MS, Oxford, MS.
Born in Water Valley on December 26, 1919, Mr. Colson was a son of James Melbourne Colson, Sr. and Mayme Stephenson Colson. He served his country in the US Navy during WW II. After graduating from Mississippi State University, he was employed by General Electric for 36 years as an Electrical Engineer.
Mr. Colson was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Water Valley and was Elder Emeritus. He was also a past president of the YCC and an avid golfer.
Survivers include: wife, Lena "Lee" Colson of Water Valley, MS : daughter, Dr. Leigh McCullough of Dedham, MA: son, Douglas Colson of Franklin, MA and son James Colson III of Water Valley, MS : sisters, Lilla Dever of Colorado Springs, CO, Dorothy Morris of Long Beach, CA and Jane Courtney of Greenwood, MS. Mr. Colson also leaves six grandchildren.
Services will be held on Thursday morning, November 3, 2005 at 11:00 am in Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home with Rev. John Wingard, Barron Caulfield and Rev. Barry Dickerson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 am until service time the day of the service. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
