WORCESTER-Preston I. Hagar, 94, died Monday, October 31st in St. Mary Health Care Center. His wife of 55 years, Marie (Mahoney) Hagar died in 2003. He leaves his son, Richard J. and his wife Charlene A. Hagar, his daughters, Anne M., wife of Fawzy S. Zadoyan all of Worcester, and Mary A., wife of Paul J. Fiset of Cape Cod, and grandchildren, Nicole M. Fiset, Jason F. and Jennifer M. Zadoyan all of Worcester and Jeremy J. Fiset and his fiancée Elise Hall of W. Newton. He also leaves his brothers, Warren Hagar of California and Paris, and Justin Hagar of Weymouth, many nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces. Preston also leaves a dear family friend Mrs. June Callahan of Wareham. His brothers, Ralph and Edward Hagar, and sisters, Ethel Davis and Mildred Sullivan predeceased him.
He was born in Haverhill, MA the son of Hayward B. and Grace G. (Barsantee) Hagar. Mr. Hagar was educated in Jamaica Plain. Preston worked in transportation all his life. He had worked for New Haven Railroad and National Carloading Corporation for almost 30 years in the Boston area, and for Hemingway Transport Inc., and retired as operations manager for Adley Express in Auburn. After retiring he worked at the former Hahnemann Hospital. Mr. Hagar was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish and its social club. He enjoyed volunteering at voting polls in Worcester, watching and listening to baseball and football, reading Western stories and working in his yard, and enjoyed time spent with family and friends.
The funeral is Friday, November 4th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 341 June Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, November 3rd from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
