SEBAGO- Maria Porter, age 77, of Sebago, passed away on Jan. 28, 2018 at Bridgton Heath Care Center.
She was born in Rhode, Romania on Nov. 10, 1940, the daughter of the late John and Maria (Gallner) Benki.
In 1952, she immigrated to the United States with her parents and began a new life with a brighter future.
After marrying the love of her life, Frederick Porter, they began a family together and raised three children.
Maria enjoyed gardening, singing, needle point, sewing, cooking, baking, reading, and was a baseball enthusiast. However, it was family that was most important to her.
She was a member of the Sebago Community Church and the West Buxton Baptist Church.
Maria is predeceased by a son- John Porter, who passed away in 2012.
She is survived by her husband- Frederick “Fred” Porter; children- Dawn Halegua and her husband Allen of Commack, NY, and Steven Porter of Naples; daughter-in-law- Tracey Porter of Sebago who is John’s widow; grandchildren- Adam, Ryan, Kim, Shane, Luke, Nathan, and Sam; and a great granddaughter- Kya.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 2, from 12 noon – 2 PM at the Poitras, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple St., in Cornish. A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 2 PM. Pastor Trent Boyd will officiate. Burial will be in the spring at Sebago Cemetery.
