TEWKSBURY - Margaret H. (Smith) Smith, age 87, a former Tewksbury resident, died Monday
morning, Oct. 31, at the Mary Immaculate Nursing and Restorative Center in Lawrence, after a
long period of declining health. She was the wife of Donald E. Smith, who died in 1992.
She was born in Chelsea on Aug. 17, 1918, a daughter of the late Paul R. Smith and Annabelle
(Laverty) Smith. She was raised in Chelsea, and graduated St. Rose High School. She was a
concert Violinist, and had also served as the Master of the Lynn Grange in 1944. She moved to
Tewksbury in 1959.
In her earlier years, she worked as a bookkeeper in the greater Boston area, and later worked in
the lunch program for the Town of Tewksbury’s School Department.
In her elder years, she was a frequent visitor to the Tewksbury Senior Drop-In Center, and was
also a member of the Tewksbury Golden Age Club.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald R. Smith and his wife Geraldine
(Fraine) Smith, and Steven D. Smith and his wife Donna (Grasso) Smith all of Methuen; two
granddaughters, Nicole S. Smith of Tewksbury and Kaitlin R. Smith of Methuen; and several
nieces and nephews.
She was also sister of the late Mary Adams, Louise Gould, Ruth Zelinski, Paul Smith and Walter
Smith. Her Funeral
Mass was held Friday, Nov. 4, in St. William’s Church, Tewksbury.
Interment was in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Memorials to the Mary Immaculate Restorative Center, 172
