CORNISH- Russell V. Smith Sr., 80, of Cornish, died at his home on January 13, 2018 after a long illness. He was born in Wakefield, Mass on March 2, 1937, a son of James and Lillian (Doucette) Smith. He attended Massachusetts schools, including Reading High School.
Russell worked as a self-employed plastering contractor for many years in Florida. He continued in that industry after moving to Maine, working for Dirigo Drywall out of Portland for several years and also for Sacopee Plastering Co. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, collecting guns and exploring and sharing Cornish and surrounding areas. He could also tell you just about anything about "Big Rig" trailer trucks. Above all he was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is predeceased by his wife, Gail (Wyman) Smith, their infant son, Joseph, Russell’s brother, Richard Smith, grandchildren Randy Alan Fairbanks and Paige Lynnae Fairbanks. Surviving are his brother Robert J Smith and wife Kathy of Louisiana, three sons: Russell Smith Jr. of Indiana, Gary Smith and wife Tina of Indiana, and James Smith of Florida. Three daughters: Valerie Swartz and husband Jim of Florida, Gail Fairbanks and husband Michael of Utah, and Sallyann Keller and husband Randy of Florida. Also 15 loving grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and many wonderful neighbors and friends.
