Obituary

Augusta, GA - Entered into rest January 18, 2018, Sylvia Jackson McCann, 90, widow of Chief Richard “Snag” McCann.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Platt’s Crawford Ave Chapel with Rev. Robert Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at West View Cemetery.

Mrs. McCann was a native of South Carolina, but had lived in Augusta since 1944. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, the University Hospital Retiree Association, and the University Hospital Nurses Alumni Association. During World War II, she was a nurse cadet, and in 1947 she graduated as an RN from the Barrett School of Nursing. In 1989 Mrs. McCann retired as an OB/GYN Head Nurse from University Hospital after 40 years of dedicated service to her profession. The family said, “She was a little Girl Scout because she was always prepared for any unexpected event.” She enjoyed playing bridge, line dancing, and clogging. One of her favorite places to be was her little cabin at Clarks Hill Lake. Mrs. McCann was a very devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She will always be remembered for her selflessness and sweet spirit.

Survivors include one son; Richard O. “Rick” McCann, Jr. (Alice) of Appling, GA, two daughters; Sylvia T. “Tweet” McCann, Priscilla “Prissy” McCann Ford (Terry) of Augusta, GA, five grandchildren; Richard Menard, Scott McCann, Taylor McCann, Ivy Reese, and Savannah Reese Juarez.

Pallbearers will be the Augusta-Richmond County Fire Dept.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
