Lawrence R. Chafe died Saturday morning at Brockton Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in Weymouth, raised in Brockton he was the son of the late Lawrence R. and Irene F. (Burbank) Chafe. He attended Brockton schools and was a graduate of Brockton High School, class of 1952. While a student at Brockton High he was Captain of the track team in 1951 and 1952.
Mr. Chafe retired from Shaws Food Warehouse after 17 years. Previously he had been employed as a mason for 12 years. He enjoyed playing slow pitch and fast pitch softball until the age of 50 and was an avid Red Sox fan.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years Joan E. (Linehan) Chafe, his children Larry Chafe Jr. of Roslindale, Kathleen Urolatis of Rochester and Michael Chafe of West Bridgewater, and a grandson Brian James Chafe.
