Edgar D. Fulton, Jr. 50 years, died unexpectedly Sunday October 23, 2005, at his home in Warsaw, Poland. Born and raised in Brockton, he was the son of Edgar D. and Jane C. (Zimarowski) Fulton, Sr. He was a graduate of Ellis Brett Elementary School, West Junior High, and Brockton High School, class of 1973. He received his BA degree in International Studies from Boston University in 1977 and his MA degree in International Affairs from the American University in 1979.
Edgar joined the Department of Commerce in 1980 and the Foreign Commercial Service in 1987. From 1980-1987 he served as an international Economist with USDOC in the International Trade Administration. His assignments included Desk Officer for Romania and Poland and business development projects with the Soviet Union. Prior to joining Commerce he worked as an economist at the US Department of Defense and in the private sector in the Real Estate industry.
Edgar served from 2000-2002 as a Senior Foreign Service Advisor for the New England region, based at the US Export Assistant Center in Boston, following an assignment as Commercial Counselor at the American Embassy in Moscow, Russia. He served as Commercial Counselor at the US Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel in 1996-1998; as Commercial Counselor in Caracas, Venezuela from 1993-1996; as Acting Commercial Counselor in Moscow in 1992; and as Commercial Attache at Embassy Warsaw in 1987-1991.
He was recognized with a Department of State Superior Honor Award for teamwork in support of Lockheed Martin’s historic $3.5 billion sale of fighter jet to Poland in 2003, has received the Department of Commerce Silver Medal Award (1991), the Department of Commerce Bronze Medal Award (1996) and a Department of State Meritorious Honor Award (1996). Edgar was promoted into the Senior Foreign Service in 1998. At the time of his death he was employed as the Commercial Counselor at the American Embassy in Warsaw Poland, a position he held since August 2002.
Edgar was dedicated to his job, spoke fluent Polish, Spanish and Russian in addition to English and wrote articles for the Commerce Magazine. He was an accomplished artist specializing in still life landscapes using both acrylic and oil paints. He participated in art shows in Poland, Venezuela and Virginia. He was also a collector of antiques.
He is survived by his parents Edgar D. and Jane C. (Zimarowski) Fulton, Sr., of Brockton, his sister Nina Fulton-Tolken and her husband Robert F. Tolken Jr. of Bourne, MA and his niece and nephew Samantha and Robert Tolken of Bourne.
