DUDLEY – Barbara M. F. (Fox) Smith, 89, died Thursday, Oct. 27, in UMass/Memorial Healthcare, Worcester. Her husband of 42 years, George T. Smith, died in 1983.
She leaves 2 sons, G. Thomas Smith and his wife Mary-Lou of Dudley, and Jeffrey J. Smith and his wife Carolyn F. of Worcester; and 5 grandchildren, Timothy, Thomas, Jennifer, Christopher and Melissa Smith.
She was born and raised in Worcester, the daughter of James C. and Ethel M. (Hayes) Fox. She graduated from Saint Stephen’s High School in 1934 and earned her Bachelor of Education Degree from Worcester State Teachers’ College in 1938.
Mrs. Smith was an elementary school teacher in Webster and then in Dudley for 33 years before she retired in 1981. She was a member of Saint Anthony of Padua Church.
The memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, October 31, in Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 24 Dudley Hill Road. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to either the Pearle Crawford Memorial Library, 1 Village Street, or to the Black Tavern Historical Society, PO Box 1804, both in Dudley, MA 01571.
