DUDLEY – Donald E. Bemis, 78, of 10 Korch Avenue, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, in Sunbridge Nursing Home, Oxford, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Arline E. (Nichols) Bemis; a son, Ronald P. Bemis and his wife Valerie of Interlachen, FL; a daughter, Doris A. Bemis of Dudley; a brother, Norman W. Bemis of Milford, NH; 3 grandchildren, Andrew, Danny and Christopher Bemis; and 7 great grandchildren.
He was born in Marlboro and raised in Maynard, a son of Warren E. and Mabel (Astwood) Bemis. He moved to Westboro in 1951, and moved to this area in 1956. He graduated from Maynard High School in 1945.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Bemis worked over 40 years at W.E.Aubuchon Company in Webster, and was manager there for 37 years, retiring in 1989.
He was a member of the United Church of Christ, Federated, in Webster. He was also a member of the Webster Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star, Clara Barton Chapter 63, in Oxford. He and his wife enjoyed square dancing where they first met each other; they were longtime members of the M & M Squares. He was a stamp and coin collector.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 29, at 1:00 PM in Scanlon Funeral Service, East Main St., Webster. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Stow. Calling hours are from 6:00 to 9:00 PM Friday, Oct. 28, in the funeral home.
