Obituary

Norman W. "127" Roylance, Sr., 77, of Mattapoisett died June 12, 2002 at Our Lady's Haven after a long courageous battle with cancer.

He was the husband of the late Beryl (Heuberger) Roylance, and son of the late Doris E. (Wilcox) and Samuel Roylance, Jr.

Mr. Roylance was born in New Bedford and had lived in Westport before moving to Mattapoisett in 1949.

He was a member of the Mattapoisett Congregational Church, and a former choir member and sexton of his church.

Mr. Roylance was formerly employed as a testboard operator with New England Telephone and Telegraph for over 30 years until his retirement in 1977. He had been a volunteer police officer for the Town of Mattapoisett for several years.

Mr. Roylance served in the U.S. Army during World War II with Company C 743rd Tank Battalion. He participated in the battles and campaigns of the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe receiving the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, Bronze Star Medal, Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He later served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Westport.

He was a member of Noquochoke Lodge A.F.& A.M. in Westport for over 50 years, the Aleppo Temple Shrine AAONMS of Boston and the Florence Eastman American Legion Post 280 in Mattapoisett. He was a graduate of Westport High School, class of 1943.

Survivors include 4 daughters, Susan N. Roylance and Cyndy R. Hebert, both of Mattapoisett, Beth R. Szeto of Hyannis, and Ruth E. Roylance of Claremont, NH; a son, Norman W. Roylance, Jr., of Laytonsville, MD; a sister, Elsie Buess of North Dartmouth; 7 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Edith Almeida.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service in the Mattapoisett Congregational Church Saturday, June 15th at 10 AM.

Visiting hours at the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6), Mattapoisett Friday, June 14th from 4-7 PM.

Interment Cushing Cemetery.
