Consolato “Kenny” Battaglia, of Gibbstown, New Jersey on October 21, 2005 in Concord, Mass., due to complications with pneumonia. He had been staying with his children in Massachusetts. He is the beloved husband of 61 years of the late Teresa (Alampi) Battaglia.
Born in Oliveto Calabria, Italy, he came to the Gibbstown/Paulsboro, New Jersey area at the age of 15. For 25 years Kenny & Teresa owned and operated “Kenny’s Tavern” in Gibbstown, New Jersey. He was a WWII Veteran, his main contribution having a national leadership in selling war bonds.
Better known as “Uncle Kenny” which he will be fondly remembered by, he had many talents, especially gardening and landscaping, but the most special talent of all, was his ability to produce the fabulous wines that he made.
He was a member of the St. Michael’s Church, the St. Michael’s Club and the Sons of Italy, who chose him to be the “Citizen of the Year” eight years ago.
Survived by his loving children, daughter Nancy Gustafson and her husband Robert, North Easton, Mass., his son Antonio and his wife Joyce, their children Nicole and Emma of Bedford, Mass., sister Fortunata (Tina) Chila, brother Vincenzo Battaglia, both of Paulsboro and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers Antonio, Pietro and Fortunato.
Calling hours will be Thursday 6-9 p.m. and Friday 9-10 a.m. at the St. Michael’s Church, Memorial Ave., Gibbstown,NJ followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Entombment Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro, New Jersey.
