TEWKSBURY - Russell F. Gath, age 82, a senior member of a large well known family and
founder of a local construction company, died Monday evening, October 24, at his Tewksbury
home, following a courageous four month battle with cancer. He was the husband for 37 years of
Lynette A. (Bowden) Gath.
He was born in Tewksbury, November 22, 1922, a son of the late Frederick and Elizabeth
(Leonard) Gath. He was educated in Tewksbury public schools, and had lived in Tewksbury
throughout his life.
He was the founder of Russell F. Gath and Sons Contractors, a commercial and residential
excavating and building site preparation company. For the last fifteen years, he had also worked
at Tewksbury Cemetery.
Mr. Gath was a charter member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks.
Mr. Gath was also a communicant of St. William’s Church.
Besides his wife he is survived by five daughters and their spouses, Claudia Rickels and her
husband John of Maryland, Sheila Callery and her fiancé Manny Pacheco both of Lowell, Janet
Gath of Tewksbury, Sheryl Parmenter and her husband Mark of Vermont, Lee Ann Carciofi of
Tewksbury; a son and his finace, Brian Gath and Ann Villandry both of Tewksbury; seventeen
grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one sister, Alice Pollinger of Lowell; three sisters-in-law,
Louise (Marion) Gath of Hillsboro, NH, Jeannette (Garrigan) Gath, Edith (Seigle) Gath both of
Tewksbury; a brother-in-law, Robert Pollinger of VT; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was father of the late Mark C. Gath; brother of the late Leonard Gath, William “Happy” Gath, Charles O. Gath, Mary
McCarthy, Anna Pollinger, Harold J. Gath, Fred Gath; and god father of the late Laurie Hoey.
His
Funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, Oct. 29, in St. William’s Church, Tewksbury. Interment wasa in Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the
Greater Lowell V.N.A. Hospice, P.O. Box 1965, Lowell, MA 01853 will be appreciated.
