Born in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, Mercedes, age 78 passed away at the Changing Seasons Healthcare in Everett after a long illness. Arriving in Chelsea in 1950, she worked for a number of years at the Sweetheart Paper Company as well as for the American Biltrite Company. Her last job prior to retirement was with Capic as a social worker and translator.
In 1980 she returned to Puerto Rico where she she remained until July of 2004. She has been a resident of Changing Seasons since February of this year.
