Myrtle Irene (Bennett) Billings of Cove Rd., Stonington, passed Saturday at Mary Elizabeth Nursing Center. She was 95.
Mrs. Billings was born in Canterbury on June 6, 1910 the daughter of Truman L. and Annie (Carr) Bennett Hammond. She was also the stepdaughter of the late Sherman Hammond.
A resident of Stonington since 1917, she was employed at the A & P Supermarket in Mystic and later the Mystic Oral School.
Mrs, Billings was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Mystic and a life member of Stonington Grange #168.
She was married to Sanford Billings in Stonington on November 8, 1928. He predeceased her.
Survivors include her son, Sanford “Nelson” Billings Jr. and his wife Christine of Mystic; her grandchildren, Sharon Billings Peay and her husband Kenneth of Waterford, Alison Starinovich of Ellington, Wendy Ehrhardt and her husband Gary of Tolland, Philip Billings and his wife Kristine of Coventry, Suzanne Billings of Manchester; a brother Noyes Bennett of Pawcatuck; 12 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews including Susan & Joseph Bennett and their son Joey; and her special friend of 88 years, Alice Burdick and her family.
She was also predeceased by a son, Coddington billings, and her siblings, Maj. Truman Bennett Jr., Harold Bennett, Leroy Bennett, and Gertrude Bennett.
Her family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, historic downtown Mystic on Tuesday from 5-7pm. Her service will be conducted at the First United Methodist Church, Willow Street, Mystic on Wednesday at 11am. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, No. Stonington.
