Obituary

Paul Anderson, 81, of Provincetown, passed away at Maplewood in Brewster, November 21st after a long battle with dementia. He was surrounded by his loving friends.

Born November 9, 1936, in Odense, Denmark, he was educated in Denmark majoring in accounting and bookkeeping. He immigrated to the United States in his early twenties. Paul worked in New York for a short time and subsequently made his way to his lifelong home in Provincetown. He worked for Liverpool in the early seventies, a men's beach attire boutique and developed a loyal following of those that appreciated his guidance and style. In the early eighties he was enticed by Dimitri Kavouras, to become the manager of Sumo, a new clothing store for men and women. At Sumo, Paul was at his best! He relished charming customers who would return year after year, if only to peek in and say hello. He was instrumental in opening a new store with Dimitri on Duval Street, in Key West, that became a success in large part because of Paul's salesmanship. After the closing of the stores and Paul retiring, he worked for his dear friend Harvey Dodd, selling Harvey's art work, until he formerly retired.

People will remember seeing Paul on his long walks around Provincetown, with a sparkle in his eye and in years past with his beloved dog Keisha, enjoying nature. Paul would never miss his weekly bridge game and cherished the time with his close friends. He was a lover of the arts, especially classical music and opera. Paul just loved Broadway and all of its magic. Spending time in his garden and enjoying the sun was at the top of Paul's list. Paul adored good food and fine wine. Everyone that knew Paul admired his sense of style, grace and fashion, and this would become his trademark.

Paul met the love of his life Robert Boles, in the late eighties and they shared a thirty-year love affair until Robert's passing on November 28, 2013. Sunday mornings were spent with Robert, Keisha and the New York Times; it was a Sunday ritual. He loved having visits from Robert's son and his grandchildren. Paul was truly a renaissance man.

Paul leaves behind his longest and dearest friend Molly Ross, his adoptive family Dimitri Kavouras, Rose Kennedy and their children, Dimitri, Mario and Marianna, Robert’s grandchildren Chase and Ellie, Olga Vitello, Cheryl Donovan and his close friends Louise Venden and her partner Sally Deane.

Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Gathering to celebrate Paul’s Life. It will be held from 2:30 – 4:00 pm, Saturday, December 16th at Saint Mary’s of the Harbor Church Hall, 517 Commercial St, Provincetown.
