Obituary

Adarienne Metz Battey, formerly of Greenwich and Stonington, CT, died Friday at Mystic Manor in Mystic. Mrs. Battey was born in Larchmont, NY in 1926 spending her childhood there, and became an avid amateur golf player in her teens.

She graduated from Briarcliff College in 1946, worked at Lord & Taylor and married William Roy Battey in 1951.

Mrs. Battey is survived by her two sons, William R. Jr. and Michael S., along with their wives and Mrs. Battey's 5 grandchildren.

Mrs Battey was a homemaker, and was an active community volunteer at the Greenwich Hospital, St. Barnabas Church, the Hortulus Garden Club and Nathaniel Witherill home in Greenwich. She loved to be outside, to play golf, tennis and to ski, fish and dance.

Mrs. Battey was the great—great-granddaughter of Michael Seeligson, who was Mayor of Galveston Texas in 1853 and who worked for the annexation of Texas to the United States.

A funeral service will be held at the St. Barnabas Church, Lake Ave., Greenwich, CT on October 29th at 1pm. Donations in lieu of flowers should be forwarded to St. Barnabas Church or the Nathaniel Witherhill Home. The Dinoto Funeral Home, Historic downtown Mystic is assisting the family.
