Maria do Carmo (Freitas) Rodrigues, 89, died at home in Stoughton on Tuesday, October 18 after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Jose Pimentel Rodrigues. Born and educated in Flores, Azores, Portugal, Mrs. Rodrigues was 1 of 8 children and her family was known as the Morocco Family to the people of Flores. She moved to Angola, Africa in 1958 and then to Stoughton in 1970. She was a seamstress and farmer in Flores and worked as a packer at Morse Shoe in Canton for over 10 years before retiring at age 62. In her free time she enjoyed crocheting.
Mrs. Rodrigues is survived by her children, Maria Palmira Gomes and Maria Leonor Rosa both of Flores, Azores, Portugal, Maria Fatima Ferreira of Pico, Azores, Portugal, Noel Rodrigues and Maria Albertina Soares both of Stoughton, Victorino Rodrigues of Pawtucket, RI, Joseph F. Rodrigues of Taunton and Maria Margarida Haskell of Maine. She is also survived by 35 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her children, Maria Lurdes Nunes, Jose Guilherme Rodrigues, Noel Rodrigues and Maria Leonor Rodrigues, as well as 3 sisters and 4 brothers.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Saturday, October 22 at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 9 AM. Visiting Hours Friday 5-9 PM. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Stoughton.
