Obituary

Arthur R. "Gunther" Perreira, 71, of Yukon, OK, formerly of New Bedford passed away Tuesday November 14, 2017.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Arthur R. and Pauline (Fortes) Perreira, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life before moving to Oklahoma in 2015.
Mr. Perreira was formerly employed by LifeStream, Inc. in New Bedford until his retirement. He had previously worked as an air traffic controller in the Boston area. He had also been a math and science tutor at Bristol Community College.
During the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a life member of the Cape Verdean-American Veterans Association, where he served on the board. He was a member of the Cape Verdean Ultramarine Band Club Bowling League and the Third Generation of Cape Verdeans, where he also served on the board. He enjoyed playing pool, chess, and darts.
He is survived by his children, Aaron Vaughan and Mary Martins, both of New Bedford, and Joan Perreira of Yukon; a sister, Barbara Garrison of Idaho; many grandchildren, including Airon Perreira, Ayzon Perreira, Azara Perreira-Souto, Avani Vaughan, and Yahla Souto; many great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was the brother of the late Carolyn M. Timm, Diane J. Lindsey, and John Theodore Perreira.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday Nov, 21, 2017 at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial with military honors will follow in the Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be on Monday Nov. 20, 2017 from 5-8 PM.
