LTC James L. Boyd, AUS (Retired), 78, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at his residence.
Funeral Services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, October 20, 2005 at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald with Rev. J. Randell Daniell officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Level United Methodist Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
He was born November 23, 1926 in Cambridge, Ohio, to his adopted parents, the late Earl and Nell Boyd. He was a graduate of High School in Cambridge, OH and attended Ohio State University. In 1982, Jim and Betty moved to Fitzgerald from Miami, Fl, where he was an employee of Pan Am Airways and the City of South Miami in Miami, FL. He was a part-time associate with Wal-Mart in Fitzgerald until his full retirement in 1995. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Corps as an Aviation Cadet, serving in the Philippine Islands during World War II. He joined the Florida Army National Guard and the Army Reserve until he retired from the military with 42 years of service as a Lt. Col. He was a member of the Reserve Officers Association, Retired Officers Association and the American Legion, Post # 99 in Fitzgerald. Mr. Boyd attended Pine Level United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years: Betty F. Boyd of Fitzgerald; daughter and son-in-law: Debbie and Jim Troup of Fitzgerald; two grandchildren: Joshua Troup of Douglas and Jacob Troup of Fitzgerald.
