Obituary

Worcester - Pearl M. (Kowalewski) Balchunas, 87, of Worcester, died Thursday, Oct. 6, in UMass-Memorial Medical Center, University Campus, after an illness. Her husband, Theodore J. Balchunas Sr., died in 1985.

She leaves a son, Theodore J. Balchunas Jr., and his wife Mary E. Balchunas, of Ocala, FL; a daughter, Roberta A. Kac, and her husband Michael, of Webster; a brother, Alexander Kowalewski of Southbridge; a sister, Barbara Letourneau of Worcester; five grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by two sisters, Theda Tracy and Shirley Romanek. She was born in Southbridge, daughter of Alexander and Mary (Stawiecki) Kowalewski and lived here for many years. She graduated from Mary E. Wells High School.

Mrs. Balchunas worked at American Optical Co., Southbridge, and later worked at State Mutual Insurance Co. for many years, retiring as assistant treasurer in 1984. She was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish.

The funeral will be held Monday, Oct. 10, from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St., with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum. Calling hours are from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, in the funeral home.
