Deacon Mario LoPriore, passed away at his home on Thursday, October 6, following a lengthy illness. The husband of Ada Lucia LoPriore, He was sixty-eight years of age.
Born in Fontarosa, Avellino, Italy he is the son of Maria Teresa (Cerundolo) of Boston and the late Michele LoPriore.
Mario was raised, educated and married in Italy, where he worked as a police officer before he and Ada came to America in 1963. They first settled in Boston´s North End and later moved to Medford where he took up residence for the last twenty-two years. He retired from Schraffts Candy Co. of Boston where he worked for many yaers. In 1979 Mario was ordained as a Deacon in the Arcdiocese of Boston. Proud to be the only Italian Deacon in the Archdiocese. He served many parishes in greater Boston. He also served as chaplain at Boston City Hospital, but he had a special fondness for the Sacred Heart Chuch in Boston´s North End. In his retirement he acted as a liaison for Opera Monte Casino to many Boston Hospitals for Italian imigrants coming to Boston for major operatons and care. Mario also served as the President of the Associazione Nazionale Carabinieri of Boston.
Along with his wife Ada he is survived by his son Alessandro LoPriore and his wife Rosa of Somerville, his daughter Patricia Federico and her husband Angelo of Malden. He leaves four loving grandchildren, Rocco, Carolina, Luca and Marco, his Mother Maria Teresa LoPriore of Boston, his uncle John Cerundolo of Medford. He is also survived by brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces.
His funeral mass will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church, 12 North Sq. Boston on Tuesday, October 11, at 10: 30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family at church from 9 a.m. to 10. Services will conclude with entombmnet in Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, Malden
Visiting hours will also be held at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford on Monday, October 10, from 3 thru 8 Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
