Obituary

Adelard W. St. Onge, 82, of Fall River died June 8, 2002 unexpectedly at Charlton Memorial Hospital.

He was the husband of Annette (Medeiros Barboza) St. Onge, with whom he would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in August, and son of the late Wilfred P. and Rosanna (Patnaude) St. Onge.

Mr. St. Onge was born in New Bedford and had lived in Acushnet for many years before retiring to Lakeland, Florida, where he lived for 17 years. He moved back to this area in January 2001.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Fall River.

He was formerly employed as an insurance agent with John Hancock Insurance Company for 30 years before his retirement in 1979.

Mr. St. Onge served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 1st Battalion of the 351st Infantry Regiment who were known as "The Fighting Blue Devils" participating in the Battles and Campaigns of Rome-Arno, North Apennines and Po Valley. He was a recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign ribbon, the American Defense Service medal, the World War II Victory medal and the Good Conduct medal. He was a graduate of Fairhaven High School and Campbell Business School.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Reverend Deacon Lawrence A. St. Onge and his wife Jacqueline, of New Bedford; a daughter, Sandra L. Sevigney and her husband Mark, of Assonet; 3 brothers, Raymond St. Onge and Wilfred St. Onge, Jr., both of Acushnet, and Alexis St. Onge of New Bedford; 4 sisters, Rosanna Norcross, Florence Lincoln, Beatrice Desjeunes and Janice Medeiros, all of Fairhaven; 4 grandchildren, Kim McCormack and her husband Bruce, and Lisa Burns and her husband John, all of East Freetown, Atty. Jennifer Sevigney Durand and her husband Bertrand, of South Boston, and Brian St. Onge and his wife Fonya, of New Bedford; and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was the grandfather of the late Jeffrey A. St. Onge.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordTuesday, June 11th at 8:30 AM.Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Church, North Main St., Fall River at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Visiting hours Monday, June 10th from 3-8 PM.

Interment Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.
