
MIDDLEBORO - Wilfred Louis “Bill” Prouty, 81, of Middleboro, formerly of Bridgewater, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005, at Morton Hospital in Taunton. He was the husband of Carole L. (Holyoke) (Chirokas) Prouty for 47 years.
Born March 4, 1924, in Brockton, he was the son of the late Wilfred C. and Dorothy (Lanue) Prouty.
Mr. Prouty was the animal inspector of Bridgewater, East Bridgewater and Plainfield.
He was a former animal control officer for Bridgewater and East Bridgewater.
Mr. Prouty was a U.S. Marine veteran, having served during World War II and received the Purple Heart along with several other medals.
He was honored at the National World War II Memorial Dedication in Washington DC, and was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by Anthony J. Principi, Secretary of Veteran’s Affairs.
In addition to his wife Carole, he is survived by his children, Susan Smith of IL.,Gerri Ann Varvel of PA., Michele Julien of NY., William Chirokas of NC., Donna Morris of Raynham, Ellen Taylor of Brockton, Deborah Noonan of Middleboro, Robin Perry of Middleboro, and Billie Jo Bustard of NC.; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; his sisters and brother, Janet Davis of Halifax, Rose Farwell of Brockton, Peggy DeChambeau of Whitman, Mal Greno of Halifax, and John Prouty of Plympton; his lifelong friends, Firmir Gingres, Merl Melman and Kenneth Ghiorse; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Jill Bernheisel, brother of the late Richard and Joseph Prouty, grandfather of the late Patrick Crowley and great-grandfather of the late David Ebling.
His funeral service will be held in the Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. (Rte. 18), Bridgewater, Tuesday at 10 am. Visiting hours are Monday 4-8 pm. Burial will be in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
