DUDLEY –John Sas, 101, of 22 West Street, died Tuesday, October 4, in Sunbridge/Sandalwood, Oxford. His wife of 51 years, Regina (Serwa) Sas, died in 1997.
He leaves a daughter, Rosalie and her husband Stanley Rolak of Webster; 2 granddaughters, Kristine and her husband Brian Schofield of Douglas, and Joanne and her husband Justin Fontaine of Thompson, CT; a great granddaughter, Ashley Schofield; nephews and nieces.
He was born and raised in Poland, a son of Frank and Gladys (Nadolska) Sas. He moved to Southbridge in 1930 and then to Dudley in 1944. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Sas worked at Ames Worsted Mills in Southbridge for several years, and then was a wet finisher and watchman at Anglo Fabrics Company in Webster for many years before retiring in 1968.
He was a member of Saint Andrew Bobola Church, the Southbridge American Legion Post #31 and the Southbridge Pilsudski Polish American Citizens Club. He was a diehard Red Sox Fan, enjoyed dancing, and planting and tending his large annual garden.
The funeral will be held Friday, Oct. 7, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., Webster, with a Mass at 10:30 AM in St. Andrew Bobola Church, 54 West Main St. Burial will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace, Webster.
