Robert I. Manning, 83, of Derry, NH, died Thursday August 17, 2017 in High Point Hospice in Haverhill, MA. He was born in Derry on August 1, 1934, the youngest of nine children of the late William and Margaret (Bailey) Manning. Mr. Manning had been a resident of Derry for most of his life formerly living in Londonderry, NH, Chester, NH and Pembroke, NH. He had been employed as a lithographer for many years, as well as a salesman, and following retirement, had worked as a limo driver. Mr. Manning was a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Derry where he had been a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing and sailing, and was an avid Red Sox and NE Patriots fan. He was also a State Championship level horseshoe player, and enjoyed bowling which he had been a State Doubles Champion with his sister Madeline.
He is survived by two sons, Robert D. Manning and wife Ann Marie of Derry, and Kevin M. Manning and wife Jolene of Londonderry; one daughter, Michelle Anderson and husband Kevin of Sandown; five grandchildren, Jonathan Manning, Maura Manning, Colleen Bender, Joshua Bruno, and Craig Chandonnet; eight great grandchildren, Evan Manning, Karen Manning, Lillian Bender, Edith Bender, Jemma Bruno, Jett Bruno, Adam Chandonnet, and Jacob Chandonnet; his sister, Margaret Morrison of Goffstown, NH; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Jeannette F. (Magee) Manning.
Following cremation, a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, August 23rd at 1:00pm in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Avenue, Derry. The burial followed in Pillsbury Cemetery, Hovey Rd., Londonderry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Employee Fund or Resident Fund at Penacook Place, 150 Water St., Haverhill, MA 01830. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry assisted the family with arrangements.
