Obituary

Ada L. (Keene) Simmons, 96, of Cole Avenue, Johnston, died Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at the Hope Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Providence. She was the widow of Joseph E. Simmons, Sr.
Born in Smithfield, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Sarah (Burbank) Keene, she had lived in Johnston for many years. She had worked as a rescue attendant for the Town of Johnston as well as in many of the area mills before retiring.
Ms. Ada was an avid piano player. She loved to entertain back in the day. She always showed her grandchildren how to play cards and have fun when they spent endless hours at her house. There were many kids who adopted her as "Gram". She was good to them, sending them home with a "goodie bag". She will be greatly missed by her grandchilden; who all have our own fond memories that they can treasure. Let's not forget the puzzles.
She is survived by her son Carl H. Simmons of Johnston, her three grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Joseph E. Simmons, Jr. Ada was the last living of nine siblings. She was predeceased by her brothers Henry, Herbert and Walter and also her sisters. Marion, Bertha, Elsie, Sarah Irene, and Gladys.
A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday at noon in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Private burial will be in Highland Memorial Park at a later date.
