EAST BRIDGEWATER - Mary (Gonsalves) Stonkus, 95, of East Bridgewater died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005, at Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Albert Stonkus.
Born July 11, 1910, in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Rose Gonsalves.
A lifelong resident of East Bridgewater, Mrs. Stonkus attended East Bridgewater schools and was a member of St. John Church.
She was a shoe inspector in the shoe industry for 50 years, having worked at Cooperative Shoe Co. in Bridgewater and Plymouth Shoe Co. in Middleboro.
Mrs. Stonkus loved the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and the New England Patriots.
She enjoyed cooking and gardening.
She is survived by her son, Albert R. Stonkus and his wife Frances of Pembroke; two grandchildren, Michael and Mark Stonkus; her niece and nephews, Janice Bolduc, Gary Bolduc and Richard Gonsalves; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was the sister of the late Joseph Gonsalves, Angelina Bolduc, Lena Gonsalves and Edith Gonsalves;
Her funeral will be from the Wales-Prophett Funeral Home, 35 Spring St., East Bridgewater, Thursday at 9:15 am., followed by a funeral Mass in St. John Church at 10 am. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater.
Visiting hours are Wednesday 4-8 pm.
