Carolyn Daniels Copeland Smith, 82, of Lilburn passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at home surrounded by her family. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 11, 2017, at Smoke Rise Baptist Church in Stone Mountain. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 10, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel in Snellville. Also, a funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, August 13, 2017, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mrs. Smith will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Born in Soperton, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Jasper and Marie Daniels. She was also preceded in death by her first husband of 34 years, Bobby Copeland of Tifton and her second husband of 11 years James Merrill Smith of Canal Winchester, Ohio; a sister, Ada Graham; and a brother Douglas Daniels. She graduated from Soperton High School in 1953. She was retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation in Atlanta. She was a member of Smoke Rise Baptist Church and valued her volunteer work for her church. Mrs. Smith devoted her life to her immediate and extended family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She had a passion for serving others, nurturing her family and expressing herself through the love of color.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her children and grandchildren; Jeffery and Bronwyn Copeland and their children, Grace and Shaun of Nashville, Tennessee; Angela Hughes and her children, Gabriel, Kayla and Hunter; Pamela Copeland of Dallas, Texas; her stepdaughters and their husbands, Anita and Jim Erickson, Becky Saarela and Cherrill and John Erickson; her brothers, J.W. Daniels, Truman Daniels and Owen Daniels, all of Soperton; and a large extended family.
