Lydia Libau a 31 year resident of Malden died on Thursday September 29, 2005 at Youville Hospital in Cambridge following a short illness. She was 87 years old.
Lydia was born in Blagovescenska, Siberia on August 5, 1918. Her family settled in Latvia while escaping Communist control by the Russian Government during World War 1. She grew up in Latvia and attended schools there. During World War 2 she began working for the Red Cross in Latvia. She immigrated to the United States in 1956. As a single mother of 2 girls she worked as a clerk for several hospitals and Law Firms in the area for over 30 years. She was a seamstress and studied music becoming an amatuer pianist.
She is the devoted mother of Solveig Marshall and Richard of Saugus and Heidi Libau of Malden. She is the loving grandmother of Carl Marshall of Saugus and the great-grandmother of Austin Marshall.
Lydia's Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday October 4, 2005 at 10 am. in the Philip X. Carr Funeral Home 1159 Main St. Melrose. Visiting hours will be on Monday October 3, 2005 from 4 to 8 pm. Interment will be in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
