Roderick B. Spurr of Holliston, passed away September 29, 2005, at the Milford Regional Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 75. Mr. Spurr was born in Beverly, and was the son of the late Edwin B. and Doris M. (Hanson) Spurr. Mr. Spurr was veteran of the U.S. Marines and served in the Korean War. A 40 year resident of Holliston, he was a respected and admired teacher of mathematics in the Wellesley Public School System for 37 years. He enjoyed playing the piano and was an avid reader, especially of Charles Dickens’ novels and Civil War books.
He was the beloved husband of Catherine E. (Pitman) Spurr for 48 years. He was the devoted father of Alison K. Spurr of Holliston and Holly C. Flynn of Sterling, AK. He was also the loving grandfather of Kristen H. Schuler of Worcester and Jeffrey D. Schuler of Holliston. Dearest grandson of the late Roderick B. Hanson and cherished brother of the late Marilyn A. Spurr.
A funeral service will be held in the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., (Rt.16) Wellesley, on Monday at Oct. 3rd at 11:00 AM. The Reverend Robert Fredrickson will officiate. Relatives, friends, and former students are kindly invited. Visiting hours on Sunday, Oct 2nd from 4-8 PM. Interment in Lakegrove Cemetery, Holliston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roderick’s name to the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center c/o MGH Development Office, 100 Charles River Plaza, Suite 600, Boston, MA 02114.
