Maria A. (DeMello) Soares, age 81, of Fall River, passed away on Wednesday July 19, 2017. Born in São Vicente, São Miguel, Açores she was the daughter of the late João and Estrella (deRego) DeMello, and wife of the late Luis Soares. She was a clothing inspector for Darwood Mfg. for 24 years, enjoyed cooking, praying the rosary and spending time with her family and friends especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters; Eduarda Tavares (husband Antonio), and Sarah Raposo, siblings; Eduarda Felix, Manuel and José DeMello, and Almerinda Perreira, grandchildren; Rachel Lavoie, Jennifer and Stacy Tavares, Mario and Jacob Raposo, son-in-law; Mario G. Raposo, and several nieces and nephews.
Maria’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Sarah S. Brayton Nursing Care Center for the exceptional care that they showed to Maria.
Her funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on Monday here at 9 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial St. Michael’s Church at 10 A.M. Interment in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery. Calling hours on Sunday from 4-8 P.M.
