Obituary

George C. Leighton, 79, of Raymond, NH, died Wednesday, September 28, 2005 in Parkland Medical Center, Derry, NH following a lengthy illness. Mr. Leighton was born in Newport, NH on July 1, 1926, a son of the late Howard H. and Dorothy L. (Campbell) Leighton. He was a resident of Raymond for the past 5 years, formerly living in Derry for many years. Mr. Leighton served with the U.S. Navy during WWII with the 143rd Battallion in the Samar, Philippines. He was a member of Teamsters Local 603 in Manchester, NH. He was employed as a truck driver for Blue Line Express in Nashua, NH, Peerless Express in Nashua and Demers Bulk Transportation in Manchester. He attended New Life Assembly of God in Raymond and also enjoyed working on his cars and working in his yard and garden.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Edna M. (Alexander) Leighton of Raymond, three sons, John L. Leighton and his wife Anita of Deerfield, NH, Gary A. Leighton and his wife Robin of Derry, Brian G. Leighton and his wife Vickie of Nottingham, NH, four grandchildren, Sheri Leighton of Salem, NH, Kim Coconis of Minot, ND, Michael Leighton and Joshua Leighton, both of Deerfield, a brother, Robert Leighton of FL, a sister, Virginia Buonanduci of Peabody, MA, and also by several nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours. Following cremation a graveside service was held on Saturday October 8th at 10:00am at the Forest Hill Cemetery, Hampstead Rd., E. Derry. The Peabody Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry handled the arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to New Life Assembly of God, 84 Nottingham Rd., (Rte. 156), Raymond, NH 03077.
