Conroy of Brockton, September 28, 2005, Helen M. (Smith) Conroy, 87 years. Wife of the late Frank S. Conroy (former Brockton City Councilor). Loving mother of Maureen P. Conroy of Rumford, RI; Patricia F. Neagle and her husband James of Brockton; Frank S. Conroy and his wife of Ethel of W. Bridgewater and John M. Conroy and his wife Sarah of So. Burlington, VT. Grandmother of Jeffrey Conroy, Julie Dascoli, Keri Powers, Erin Neagle, Alison Calnan, Emily, Molly and Laura Conroy. Also survived by 5 great grandchildren. Sister of Mrs. Joseph P. (Marion) Long of Hyannis and the late Lawrence J. Smith.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Saturday at 9 am. Funeral Mass in Holy Cross Church, So. Easton at 10 am. Burial in St. Michael Cemetery, Avon. Visiting hours Friday 4-8 pm. Donations in Helen’s name may be made to the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society, Office of Donor Services, 1311 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains, NY 10606.

Obituary

Mrs. Conroy died Wednesday morning at BayPointe Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center after a recent illness. She was the wife of the late Frank S. Conroy (Former Brockton City Councilor). Born in Brockton, daughter of the late Henry Joseph and Elizabeth (Roach) Smith. She was a graduate of Brockton High School and a resident of the city for most of her life. She was a well known secretary in Brockton, Boston and New York City. For over fifteen years with Greater Brockton Catholic Charities of Old Colony Area and with Old Colony Elderly Services for five years. During the war years she worked as a secretary for the Export-Import Clearing House in New York City. Mrs. Conroy was a member of St. Margaret Church, Brockton, and a life member of the Charity Guild, Inc. She was a sixty year member of the Senior Twentieth Century Catholic Club having served as a Director of Jr. TCC Club. She was a Charter Member when the Junior Club was organized in 1934-35. She also held membership in St. Coletta’s Guild, Good Samaritan and Goddard Hospital’s Auxiliary, Bridgewater Historical Society, a volunteer at Council on Aging, West Bridgewater Social Day Care Center, a member of J.O.Y. (Just Older Youths) for five years and had also been its secretary, She had been a volunteer at Goddard Medical Associates and a former member of the Commercial Club Ladies Bowling League of Brockton.

She is survived by two daughters, Maureen P. Conroy of Rumford, RI; Patricia F. Neagle and her husband James of Brockton, two sons, Frank S. Conroy and his wife Ethel of W. Bridgewater and John M. Conroy and his wife Sarah of So. Burlington, VT., eight grandchildren , Jeffrey Conroy and his wife Jennifer of Chantilly, Virginia, Julie Dascoli and her husband Michael of Smithfield, RI, Keri Powers and her husband Ryan of Brockton, Erin Neagle of Quincy, Alison Calnan and her husband Thomas of Bridgewater, Emily, Molly and Laura Conroy all of So. Burlington, VT., five great grandchildren, sister of Mrs. Joseph P. (Marion) Long and her husband Joseph P. of Hyannis.
She was the sister of the late Lawrence J. Smith.
