Obituary

WORCESTER-Eugene R. Gingras, 88, of 21 Tamar Avenue, died September 27th, the same day as his wife, in Knollwood Nursing Center. His wife of 59 years, Margaret E. (Coomey) Gingras, died September 27th, 2004. He leaves 4 sons; Eugene J. “Bud” and his wife Sharon Gingras of Millbury, William F. and his wife Frances Gingras of Northbridge, John J. and his wife Katherine of Charlton and Michael T. and his wife Donna Gingras of Worcester, a daughter; Ann M. Pugliese wife of William Pugliese, Jr. of Worcester, 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; many nephews and nieces, an extended family of brothers; Paul, Robert, William and John Gingras and sisters; Doris Conlin, Marylou Watkins and Ann Deviney. 4 brothers; Alfred, Edmond, Ernest and Donald Gingras and 4 sisters; Albina Doane, Madeline Gingras, Rita Chesties and Eva Gingras predeceased him.

He was born in Worcester the son of Alphonse J. and Sophie (White) Gingras and was raised by his sister-in-law Mary “Mom” Gingras. Mr. Gingras graduated from the former Commerce High School and worked for Cincinnati Milacron Company, Heald Machine Division for 46 years as a machinist and later worked in the parts, sales, purchasing and personnel departments, before retiring in 1981. He was a member of its Glee Club and Barber Shop Quartet. Mr. Gingras was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and an avid sports fan who was a football season ticket holder at the College of the Holy Cross for over 40 years. He played in the Industrial Semi-Pro Baseball League and umpired for fast and slow pitched softball for most of his life. Mr. Gingras loved playing sports with his grandchildren and children and enjoyed golf, listening to music and singing.

The funeral is Friday, September 30th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, September 29th from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Elder Service Plan of Fallon, 277 East Mountain Street, Worcester, MA, 01606 or Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown,MA 02472.
