TEWKSBURY: William F. Hannigan, age 84, a resident of Tewksubry for over 70 years, died Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at the Lowell General Hospital.
He was the husband of Lois I. (Richards) Hannigan with whom he celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on December 6, 2004.
Born in Lowell on November 9, 1920, he was the son of the late John P. and Grace J. (Johnson) Hannigan.
Mr. Hannigan was raised in Tewksbury and attended Tewksbury schools.
In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served during World War II during the battles and campaigns at Normandy, Ardennes, Germany, Northern France and Central Europe. Mr. Hannigan was awarded several decorations including the Good Conduct Medal and the EAME Theatre Campaign Ribbon with six battle stars.
Following his military service, he worked for 52 years as a self employed carpenter until his retirement in 1982.
Mr. Hannigan attended the Lawrence Street Primitive Methodist Church of Lowell.
He was a member of the Lowell Sportsmen’s Club.
Mr. Hannigan enjoyed many activities including vegetable gardening, traveling to West Burke, VT and deer hunting.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter; Laurel J. Hansen and her husband Dana A. of Lowell; one son; Jeff T. Hannigan and his wife Faith (Ortins) of Spring Valley, CA; two grandchildren; Olivia J. and Rebecca I. Hansen both of Lowell.
Mr. Hannigan was the brother of the late John A. Hannigan and Jean G. Kenyon.
Calling hours Sunday, October 2nd from 2-5 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral service Monday,October 3rd, 9 a.m., at the funeral home.
