
Sears of Yarmouthport, formerly of West Bridgewater and West Dennis, September 26, 2005, Lloyd A. Sears, 79 years. Husband of the late Mary E. (O’Brien) Sears. Beloved father of Maryanne L. Potwin of Nebraska; Karen Sears-Becker of Maryland and Susan Sears Cote and her husband Robert of West Dennis. Grandfather of Justin and Jason Potwin and Matthew and Ryan Sears Cote.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St.Pius X Church, Station Avenue, South Yarmouth Friday at 12 noon. Burial will be held at a later date in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
Obituary
Lloyd A. Sears died Monday evening at Cape Cod Hospital. Born in Brockton, son of the late Lloyd W. and Evangeline (MacDonald) Sears. He was a direct decedent of the first child born on the Mayflower voyage to America. He had resided in West Bridgewater for most of his life, summered in West Dennis and moved to Yarmouthport four years ago. He graduated from Boston University and received his masters in teaching from Bridgewater State College. He served in the US Army during WWII. Mr. Sears had been a teacher in Braintree for 28 years, had taught in Wareham, and had also been a Junior High School Football Coach in Braintree. He taught the Vision Impaired how to bowl. He was a Charter Member for the West Bridgewater Council on Aging, member of St. George Mason Lodge and started Meals on Wheels.
He enjoyed gardening, baseball card collecting and was an avid fan of the Patriots and Red Sox.
He is survived by three daughters, Maryanne L. Potwin of Nebraska; Karen Sears-Becker of Maryland and Susan Sears Cote and her husband Robert of West Dennis, four grandchildren, Justin and Jason Potwin and Matthew and Ryan Sears Cote.
