Helen E. (Erkkila) Herstein, 86, of Needham formerly of Waltham and Plainfield NJ, died suddenly Sun Sept 25, 2005 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center West Campus in Boston.
Born in Fitchburg, she graduated from Fitchburg High in 1937 and received her degree in nursing from Butler Hospital School of Nursing in Providence RI in 1940. She later received her BA from Rutgers in 1972 and her MA in Psychology from Kean College in Kean NJ in 1981. She taught Psychiatric Nursing at Kean College for 4 years. Mrs. Herstein lived for many years in Plainfield, NJ before moving to Waltham, MA. While living in Waltham she was a volunteer librarian at the Waltham Public Library.
Wife of the late Frederick E. Herstein she is survived by her daughter Diana H. Perretta of Watertown and Morgan VT, and her sons Peter D. Herstein of Charlestown RI, and Stephen S. Herstein of Walnut Creek CA. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
A memorial gathering will be held on Thurs Sept 29 at 2 PM in the Living Room of Avery Crossing 110 West St. Needham. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
