Arthur R. Shelley a longtime Needham resident died on Saturday, September 24, 2005 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston. He was 79 years old. Born in Malden, Mr. Shelley was a graduate of Weymouth High School. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he became a pilot during World War II. After the war, he attended Dartmouth College, graduated from Syracuse University and attended Babson College. Mr. Shelley taught Math at North Quincy High School, before embarking on a long career as a systems analyst for several major electronics firms. He worked for Systems Development Corporation, Control Data Corporation, Raytheon, Sumani Corp , General Electric and GTE Systems in Needham from which he retired in 1992. The beloved husband for 58 years of Grace E. (Gibbons), he was the father of Arthur R. Jr. of Gainesville FL, Paul J. of Needham, Neil E. of Stockholm Sweden, Robert J. of Needham, John F. of Alachua FL and Kathy Mazzola of Natick. Brother of Wilfred Shelley of Centerville, and Margaret Goudy of Weymouth. Also survived by 9 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Avenue Needham on Wednesday September 28 at 9:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Joseph Church at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting Hours on Tuesday from 5-8 PM. Interment at Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Needham.
